Meeting 20 May - embedded video game fun

May 13th, 2009

Hi all,

For a final in an RTOS class I’m taking I have a couple, separate things to do. Both require presentations (video taped) so I thought I’d offer to do them in the Linux Lab, 7:00pm on May 20.

  • FreeRTOS demo - ~10-15 minutes, demonstrate context switching, overview of the simple OS on an atmel.
  • Propeller Project - Are you nostalgic for the comodore64/appleII days? I know I sure shouldn’t be because I’m a newcomer, but I am anyway. This is the final project I’m working on for the class. I’m building a cool little video game on the propeller chip (this little embedded 8 core device http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallax_Propeller) - complete with nes controllers. Will it work? I hope so! Right now I’m trying to network 4-way pong (ooh, sweet) but hopefully something more fun by the time May 12 comes around. I’m not promising anything, but if I can find one, there might be a nintendo power pad involved…

I’ll bring pizza and soda for anyone who shows up as bribery.

Meeting

February 27th, 2009

Yes folks, meetings are back. We are also prostelizing for new geekiness talent, so everyone show up or be square.

The Theme: Bring your favorite <= 10 line script.

Also on the agenda - I’d like to talk about maybe changing meeting to every third Wednesday (or something). That way I can have my geekiness spread from FF and get some in the middle of the month. I don’t know though - it’s just an idea. And finally, I’d like to talk about changing our webpage.

Hello world!
